Overview:

Our client’s department is responsible for both the definition of general data management principles/best practices for the rest to follow and the provision of core data services for consumption by the business.

Current departmental projects include, among many others, Customer Data Management (CDM), document management and analytical reporting in a Big Data environment.

Purpose of the Job:

This role is concerned with a multi-year programme of work to improve Wholesale customer data management. The purpose of the role is to lead a small delivery pod, providing system & business analysis, solution designs, functional requirements, documentation and ensuring the delivery progresses through development, testing and prod deployment in accordance with the agreed timelines and lifecycle implementation. Some hands-on technical testing may also be required.

Responsible For:

  1. Day to day lead of a small technology delivery pod, typically 4-7 people, including product owner, developers & testers.
  2. Rapidly understanding business requirements through regular interactions with the product owner, business users and other subject matter experts.
  3. Translation of business and system requirements into solution designs and functional requirements.
  4. Arrange and agree the required development and testing across the pod.
  5. Chair daily stand-ups to ensure the delivery tasks are being completed to schedule and quality.
  6. Together with the product owner communicate pod delivery progress to the wider programme as necessary.
  7. Working closely with the production support team to ensure all new software is well understood and readily supported

Major Challenges:

The main challenge is to be able to operate in a large, dynamic, pressurised environment where high-quality, innovative software solutions are needed rapidly to support an ever-evolving business.

Navigating this eco-system in order to deliver change is not necessarily easy and requires initiative, self-motivation and drive.

Getting clarity on business requirements is not easy for a number of reasons and so the candidate will need to have some tenacity and drive to get the job done properly in occasionally difficult circumstances.

Additionally, with the project team distributed in a number of regions, excellent communication skills and the ability to cooperate well in a team are essential.

ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS (Experience, skills, competencies etc)

  • Ability to work with business users and the pod stakeholders such as project managers and architects.
  • Excellent data analysis skills with experience dealing with large and complex data sets.
  • Good knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), particularly Oracle.
  • Highly analytical with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experienced in analysing business requirements and turning them into effective functional solutions.
  • Excellent communication, both written and spoken (in English).
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to both lead and contribute within a small team.
  • Ability to learn fast and rapidly assimilate new ideas.
  • Understanding and awareness of the key activities required for all phases of the project life-cycle.
  • Preferable to have GCP experience. 
  • Define data flows data design documents with front to back flows for a use case 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to “sell” ideas and processes internally at all levels, including Senior Leadership Team and Architecture team.
  • Deep knowledge in the following disciplines: identifying/protecting sensitive data, data governance, data quality, Reference data, meta data and records managements (data retention and destructions).
  • Proven data literacy — The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS (Experience, skills, competencies etc)

Though the below items are not essential, having several of them would be useful:

  • Awareness of master data management patterns and principles.
  • Familiarity with the Linux/unix operating system.
  • Experience of agile software development projects and leading multi-functional delivery pods.
  • Some project management experience.
  • Knowledge of sound application integration patterns.
  • Knowledge of IBM’s Infosphere Information Server and IBM’s Master Data Management platform.
  • Background as a developer
