(DAO) Europe Data Privacy Lead

The Europe Data Privacy Lead primarily supports the Protect pillar of the strategy.

Under the Europe Head of Data and Architecture Office, one of the key roles is the Europe GB GF Data Privacy Lead, who is responsible for providing guidance, advice and oversight to  Businesses and Functions on all privacy matters, including cross border data transfers, which are critical to a global organisation.

The team seeks to ensure that data (including but not limited to personal data) is available to the business in a manner compliant with all applicable laws and regulations in Europe. They are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join the team to work on a range of data privacy-related matters globally.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a range of data privacy issues and providing fit for purpose solutions that enable Group DAO and broader teams to execute DAO data strategy. He / she will help set out path to becoming a truly data-led organisation, where data underpin business and technology goals.

Key priorities include

  • Data Privacy related enhancement and issue management

  • Data privacy control and Data Storage control governance

  • Data privacy related laws and regulations, such as GDPR, related audit and regulatory activities

  • Record retention, including data disposal program governance under business and functions.


Impact on the Business

  • Working from Europe to support Group Data Privacy & Sharing team to fulfil its mandate and ensure wider DAO teams are aware of and compliant with global data privacy laws & regulations.

  • Support Group Data Privacy & Sharing team and Regional and Entity GB/GF in performing privacy assessments of operational processes, identifying, and mitigating risks through effective tools, training and guidance where needed

  • Embedding and providing guidance on Data Privacy Controls for the region.

  • Assisting in developing, managing and maintaining data standards, policies and methodologies in line with Group Data Privacy Policy for the region when needed.

  • Supporting the development and delivery of data privacy and protection controls based on data policies that assure the compliant use of data and information across the region.

  • Providing support in developing and administering guidance, training and educational materials for the region

  • Identify areas of improvement in local and regional practices relative to managing data privacy

  • Working with stakeholders to plan future data privacy needs

  • Acting as a role model on data privacy laws, working collaboratively with Legal Data Privacy and Regulatory Compliance to communicate on data risk policies.

  • Championing, raising awareness and understanding of Group Data Privacy Policy and control framework for the region

  • Working with stakeholders on Data Privacy law, compliance and risks as required (for example by providing input on any changes to scope in controls or processes required).

  • Monitoring data privacy dashboard and heatmap, call out required actions from business functions

  • Provide direction at a regional level and support at a country level.

  • Influence DAO leadership and senior stakeholders regionally through action and strong leadership.


• Detailed knowledge of European data privacy laws, including the GDPR and the e-Privacy Directive.

• Solid knowledge of major international Laws and Regulations impacting data privacy.

Ability to practically apply privacy laws to real world scenarios, providing simple, comprehensible and measurable guidance and solutions to privacy related queries.

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, understand technology and commercial concepts quickly

• Strong relationships skills / ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally

• Ability to work effectively under pressure with competing and rapidly changing priorities

• Proven track record of taking ownership / responsibility for work and be comfortable working independently

• Ability to identify and mitigate privacy risks with the ability to understand materiality of risks and prioritise / differentiate response accordingly

• Flexible approach to working hours and environment

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
