Brief department description/Overview:
To manage all aspects of the external financial reporting process for the consolidated client Group, focussed on Reporting Developments, including:

  •  Interpreting new financial reporting requirements, designing the external disclosures for new financial reporting
    requirements and significant changes to existing requirements, ultimately delivering the new disclosure for ongoing BAU delivery.
  •  Managing the disclosure compliance process for client Holdings plc including coordination and completion of the external disclosure requirements checklist with disclosure section owners. ·
  • Specifying application guidance and effective data collection mechanisms to collect complex financial information from a large network of reporting sites through dry run processes.
  • Implementing the necessary control environment to provide assurance over consolidated financial information
    included in external publications (including analytical review and other appropriate procedures)
  • Provide practical guidance to sites and regions with regard to accounting changes e.g. new standards, best
    practice developments etc.
  • Engage with the business and other stakeholders such as Risk/Regulatory/ MR&A/ Change/Treasury to ensure
    preparedness to meet new requirements from both a business model and systems perspective.
  • Supporting delivering the external financial statements of the client Group within strict deadlines, including
    preparing the draft financial statements in accordance with reporting requirements and participating in the quarterly close process (analytical reviews, impairment testing, etc.).

Impact on the Business

  • Understand technical disclosure requirements and design new disclosures or improvements to existing disclosures. Lead the discussion and debate around these changes and successfully navigate through the required governance.
  • Manage completion of the semi-annual disclosure requirements checklist with disclosure section owners.
  • Identify areas where there are inconsistent accounting practices globally or where further clarification is needed and provide sites with regions with formal technical and practical guidance.
  • Understand Saracen and upstream and downstream systems to be able to provide practical solutions to data
    requirements for new or existing disclosures. This includes fully planning and executing global dry run processes.
  • Provide capacity and support to the Delivery team during peak interim and year end reporting periods in the
    production of the external reports and assurance process.

Major Challenges

  • The increasing burden of new financial reporting requirements including changes in accounting standards (e.g
    IFRS), developments in regulatory financial reporting requirements (e.g. FINREP) and best practice disclosures
    (e.g. FRC and PRA requirements)
  • The requirement to continually improve business processes in a sustainable way whilst maintaining high standards of financial reporting
  • Delivering complete solutions to financial reporting requirements within a large and complex Group and in
    accordance with strict deadlines

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:

  • Relevant financial reporting experience with a large institution, preferably in a Group capacity
  • Fundamental understanding of the external disclosure requirements for a large organisation, preferably a financial institution
  • Strong knowledge of IFRSs and awareness of other relevant regulatory and best practice reporting issues (such as
    FRC)
  • Strong knowledge of a bank’s typical balance sheet and the relevant technical accounting for these items.
  • Understanding of Hyperion based reporting systems and other upstream/ downstream data systems preferable.
  • Ability to field, analyse and solve problems/queries and to challenge existing procedures.
  • Experience of taking ownership of complex processes and leading projects from planning to completion.
  • Ability to business partner with subject matter experts in risk and other finance teams on external disclosure
    requirements.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial issues confidently to management and other senior stakeholders both
    written and verbally
  • Ability to write clear and succinct accounting papers or proposals and the confidence to provide practical
    recommendations to accounting and reporting issues
  • Ability to design, document and communicate analytical procedures to provide assurance over external financial
    statements
  • Recognised relevant professional financial accounting qualification
